Homeopathy - the other way

Basic principles

Homeopathy stands for something quite easy and wonderful – the gentle way of medical therapy.

Homeopathy and Allopathy

The German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755 – 1843) is the father of homeopathy and also coined the term homeopathy by derivation from the Greek homoios = similar and pathos = suffering. So, the literal translation of homeopathy would be "similar suffering".

It was also Hahnemann who introduced the term allopathy meaning a therapy governed by rules different from homeopathy (Greek allos = different).

This differentiation continues until the present day, but it is no longer a matter of mutual exclusion but of useful coexistence. Homeopathy does not claim to be the one and only or the most effective therapy. Homeopathy has its place in medicine and its importance is still growing.

Therapy
Unlike conventional medicine, homeopathy does not treat the disease, but the patient. Homeopathy regards the healthy individual as a balanced system. If the body falls ill, the balance has been disturbed.

Homeopathy tries to stimulate the body to restore the balance on its own.

The versed homeopath looks for the reasons that caused the disturbances of balance in the patient himself, in his physical and mental entity. And homeopaths always treat the whole patient taking the entire symptom complex into account - applying medicines that would cause similar symptoms in a healthy person in accordance with Hahnemann's law of similars: Let likes be cured by likes.

Small Stinging Nettle, for example
Let us look at an example to see how the principles of homeopathy work. We all know that contact with the stinging nettle causes an itching, stinging rash. It is exactly these symptoms which are made use of in homeopathy according to the law of similars. Urtica urens, the small stinging nettle, is used to treat ailments with similar symptoms. The medicine produced from the whole fresh flowering plant is used for mild burns, urticaria and insect bites.

Powerful Self-Medication
Homeopathy is not a passive therapy, but a way of powerful self-medication. It stimulates the body’s defensive powers and activates the body’s capability to react, regulate, adapt and restore on a natural basis. Homeopathy complies with a very modern way of thinking and living, with more awareness of nature and health.

Applications
Homeopathy – the other way – for a successful cure. In acute diseases homeopathy is an effective therapy, e. g. for

  • colds
  • headaches
  • gastrointestinal disturbances etc.

Homeopathy is also very successful in the treatment of chronic diseases such as

  • hay fever and neurodermatitis
  • chronic inflammatory intestinal diseases
  • rheumatic diseases with joint and lumbar disorders as well as sciatic pains.

When to consult your Doctor
There are, however, conditions when the self-healing powers of the body are blocked or which have been induced by a missing substance (as in e.g. diabetes). Here, homeopathy and self-medication with homeopathic medicines reach their limits. In these cases do not hesitate to consult an experienced doctor.

Homeopathy is a therapy that aims to stimulate and regulate a body system which is capable of responding to stimuli when all the necessary body substances are present.
