The manufacturing of high-quality homeopathic medicines begins at DHU with the production and selection of starting materials. We impose the same quality standards on those materials not cultivated or produced by ourselves.
We employ chemical-physical analysis procedures to ensure the identity and purity of each material before processing. Even during the manufacturing process the individual steps are monitored by strict and comprehensive in-process controls – as stipulated in the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) guidelines.
Solid and Soluble Materials
Our production processes, which are characteristic for homeopathy, strictly comply with the methods specified in the German Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia (HAB). Depending on the extractability of the respective material, the mother tincture or a trituration is used for the manufacture of homeopathic medicines.
- First, we produce grindings, i.e. triturations from solid and insoluble materials. The material is ground with lactose.
- Soluble material is processed into mother tinctures which are then diluted step by step with a mixture of ethanol and water.
The Principle of Potentization
The principle of potentization will be explained for decimal potencies (X or D) with regard to the manufacture of the medicines Chamomilla D6 (chamomile).
To produce a D6 potency, take one part Chamomilla D5 and add 9 parts of the ethanol-water mixture into a vial. Then, the new dilution is succussed ten times. This produces the medicine Chamomilla D6.
This potency in turn provides the basis for a D7 potency. Take one part Chamomilla D6 and add 9 parts of the ethanol-water mixture and finally succuss again ten times to produce Chamomilla D7.
If this process is continued, we produce Chamomilla D8, D9 and so on.
We potentize homeopathic medicines in the following three dilution ratios:
- D (or X) potencies representing a ratio of 1 : 10
- C potencies representing a ratio of 1 : 100
- LM (or Q) potencies representing a ratio of 1 : 50,000
